Summit Medicine and Pediatrics’ Tip to Manage the COVID-19 Pandemic

TODAY’S TIP:  Sanitize Your Grocery Containers and Your Mail Containers

The most recent research on the COVID-19 virus indicates that this novel Coronavirus has the ability to remain viable on surfaces for up to 17 days. Therefore, a factory-worker, transporter, mail carrier, or stock person, who handles the groceries your purchase at the store, and the envelopes and packages that you receive in the mail, and who unwittingly may be infected with COVID-19, could place the virus on these boxes, bottles, envelopes and packages. This may be one mechanism in which some patients acquire unwittingly COVID-19 infection.

Every time you purchase groceries and pick up your mail:

  • Wash your hands  with soap and warm water for a minimum of 20 seconds as soon as you arrive home
  • Sanitize all of your grocery containers before placing then in your cupboard and opening them
  • Wash thoroughly all of your grocery produce before placing then in your refrigerator and cooking or eating them
  • Sanitize your postal envelopes and boxes before opening them in your home

“It’s the little things that escape us which can endanger us. After all, the COVID-19 virus is very, very little in size.” — Dr. Mike
